TOKYO, Jan 30 (Reuters) – Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) offered 10.5 million autos in 2022, it stated on Monday, defending its title as the world’s top-selling automaker for a 3rd straight 12 months.
Global gross sales for the group, together with truck unit Hino Motors (7205.T) and small-car maker Daihatsu, inched down 0.1% as file abroad gross sales of 8.6 million autos helped offset a 9.6% dip in its residence market to 1.9 million.
Second-ranked rival Volkswagen Group (VOWG_p.DE) earlier this month reported its lowest gross sales in over a decade, of 8.3 million autos, as COVID-19 lockdowns in China and the conflict in Ukraine upended provide chains.
While some chip-related provide constraints remained for Toyota as properly, the Japanese automaker stated sturdy demand in Asia and a rise in the manufacturing capability and optimisation in Asia and North America helped it enhance international manufacturing by 5% in 2022.
